Personal Injury Copilot

Assessment Tool

Use this tool to determine your need for a Personal Injury Case Management System.

Use a scale of 0 (low) to 5 (high) in scoring the following: Score
1.  Moving cases forward often takes constant monitoring and follow-up by the attorney to avoid needless delays. Score 5 points if a significant number of cases don't progress expeditiously without your directing staff on routine or mundane activities like checking treatment status, requesting medical records, or sending discovery down to 0 points if everyone has a computer-based tickler system that automatically directs them on the next task for each case.
2.  Adjusting who gets paid from settlement proceeds during a client settlement meeting can be a nerve-wracking and error-prone experience. Score 5 points if you have to recalculate and redraft the settlement distribution letter manually, down to 0 points if your system recalculates and updates everything with just a few clicks.
3.  Properly calculating and tracking deadlines is important, but it doesn't have to be tedious. Score 5 points if you've been up against the wall or missed deadlines (i.e., trial prep deadlines for witness lists, motions, etc.), down to 0 points if your system flawlessly calculates deadlines and keeps you on top of them automatically.
4.  Interrupting staff causes stress and inefficiencies. Score 5 points if you regularly interrupt staff and ask them to jump on something "more urgent", down to 0 points if you can input your requests into the system and your concerns are recorded, prioritized and tracked on your staffs' daily worksheets.
5.  Late responses to discovery requests can cause delays, embarrassment, or even sanctions. Score 5 points if your responses are ever overdue, down to 0 points if your system prevents you from untimely discovery responses.
6.  Flawed demand letters don't produce optimum settlements. Score 5 points if your demand letters have contained miscalculations, missing medical costs or lost wages, down to 0 points if your system automatically calculates and includes all items in the demand.
7.  I'll have to "pull the file" and get back to you. Score 5 points if case notes or client information (name, address, phone numbers) is filed, down to 0 points if it's all at your fingertips with just a mouse click.
8.  Having to pay overlooked liens or expenses after settlement funds are distributed to your client can really cost you. Score 5 points if you ever had to pay for overlooked items out of your attorney's fees, down to 0 points if your computer protects you from these errors.
9.  Once information is "in the system" like an address or case caption, it should be usable without retyping. Score 5 points if you ever have to type an address, down to 0 points if you can assemble documents without typing at all.
10.  Ever wake up in the middle of the night wondering if you've blown a statute or forgotten something important on a case?  Score 5 points if this occurs regularly, down to 0 points if you're handling twice as much as you ever thought possible and still enjoying practicing law.

Scoring:

Use the practice quotient number you just calculated to determine your current need for the implementation of an automated case management system at this point.

0 - 10: You're okay with your current procedures and will probably not get enough return on investment to justify law practice software at this time.

10 - 20: Your current systems meet many, but not all, of your law practice management needs. If you're going to grow, getting personal injury law practice software now would be a smart move. Our software demo will help you become familiar with the features and benefits available in law practice management software. View the Personal Injury Copilot Demo >>

20 - 30: Your plate is full, and mistakes are inevitable. You can grow without increasing your risk of mistakes if you first implement a case management system. You need to be familiar with how a specific software solution can benefit you. To get a better idea of how Copilot's Personal Injury Case management System works visit our how it works page.

30 - 40: You're frequently putting out fires and operating outside of your comfort zone. Get off the treadmill. You should have implemented law practice software before now.  Do it now, before it's too late. Call us toll free 877.748.8665 or contact us via email and we will help you assess your situation.

40 - 50: Don't even consider buying case management software until you get things under control.  Buying software at this time will only increase your distress. First reduce your workload and/or hire support staff. Then get your case management system in place so you can maintain control.
